There was a bigger point. When Coppola completely sold out and finally made Godfather III, it already didn't matter. It was expected. Everything he made throughout the '80s and '90s bombed. Why else would he do it? I've said it before, and I'm sticking to it, nobody's made a better, more sophisticated, beautiful film than Godfather Part II in 1974. As an artform movies topped out right there.

Are you saying I don't know what I'm talking about? I'm not stupid, I'm smart.

You're probably right about the time, but the approach is so wrong it doesn't matter

Ah - you've got the comments turned back on! Count me as one of those faithful daily readers and admirers. I'll remember to click "like" more often. Add a heart and we'll all 💓 you too . I've forwarded the email itself a couple of times, but don't use Substack otherwise, so have never done that kind of forward. About half the time I read your pieces aloud to my girlfriend who invariably says to let you know what a wise, insightful, knowledgeable, thoughtful guy you are.

Hey are you sure Godfather III is set in 1990? Granted, I saw it only once, 30 years ago, for obvious reasons. But I thought it was set c. 1979, rightvwhen the cream Vatican financial scandal happened, with Michael a weathered age 60, about Pacino's real age. Even then, the two kids should have been over 30.

Keep cranking 'em out!

Regards,

August
